Tampa Developer Razing Office Building, Condos/Hotel Rooms on Way

by Mike Boyd

Stock Development began demolition of the office building at 601 N. Ashley Drive to build a 40-50-story, luxury condominium tower that will also include hotel rooms. The Tampa Bay Business Journal reports the company paid $40 million for the property in 2025. The site was the former GTE Building (also known historically as the Wallace Stovall Tampa Tribune building).

Ziegler Cooper of Houston is the tower’s architect.

The area has seen increased interest from condo developers of late. One Tampa is under construction across the street from Stock’s property, and Pendry Tampa Hotel and Residences is under construction about a half-mile south.

STOCK Development has built more than 6,000 homes throughout Southwest Florida. Naples-based Stock developed The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Naples. The 128-unit development features a marina, Spa, secluded park, and more than 50,000 square feet of amenities.
